This fine organ was Dalstein-Haerpfer’s masterpiece.  The firm came was founded in 1863 as a result of the meeting of two men who were both working on the organ at Saint-Sulpice, Nicolas Dalstein (one of Cavaillé-Coll’s craftsmen) and Johann-Karl Haerpfer (voicer of the German firm of Walcker).
The organ of Saint-Sébastien in Nancy is a satisfying blend of French and German ‘symphonic’ styles.  It has survived intact since it was made in 1881 and was completely cleaned and restored between 2004-2008 by Laurent Plet, assisted by Jean-Baptiste Gaupillat.
